GEICO signs Azzi Fudd as first female athlete partner
GEICO has signed UConn guard Azzi Fudd as its first female athlete partner, marking the insurer’s first multiyear talent sponsorship.
The partnership was unveiled with virtual billboards around Madison Square Garden ahead of UConn’s game against St. John’s. The deal is expected to extend beyond Fudd’s collegiate career as she transitions to the WNBA.
Fudd will appear in GEICO’s upcoming docuseries, Miles That Matter, which premieres March 16 on Paramount+. She is also expected to feature in GEICO’s television campaigns centered on the theme that every athlete has a team behind their success.
The move signals a broader push into women’s sports under CMO Arianna Orpello, who joined the insurer earlier this year. Orpello described the partnership as the start of a women’s sports strategy, with GEICO planning on-the-ground activations during March Madness and additional community initiatives.
The sponsorship also positions GEICO more directly against State Farm, which has a long history of athlete endorsements. While GEICO has previously used talent in advertising, the Fudd agreement represents its first formal multiyear athlete partnership.
For GEICO, the deal reflects an effort to modernize its sports marketing approach and differentiate in a competitive insurance advertising landscape increasingly shaped by athlete-driven brand narratives.
