Unum names Steve Jones president of Colonial Life

Unum has named Steve Jones as president of Colonial Life, effective June 8, as part of a planned leadership transition.

Jones will oversee business performance and long-term strategy for Colonial Life and report to Rick McKenney. He succeeds Tim Arnold, who will retire in July after 41 years with Unum, including more than a decade leading the business.

Jones joined Colonial Life in 2023 as senior vice president of field and market development. Prior to that, he held leadership roles at Cigna and Aetna, with experience across supplemental and health products.

McKenney said Colonial Life remains central to Unum’s growth strategy and pointed to Jones’ background in driving results and working with employers and brokers.

Arnold’s tenure included expanding Unum’s voluntary benefits business and leading the unit through multiple operational changes.
