Re-introducing Hugo Insurance

Santa Monica-based Hugo Insurance has re-launched its pay-as-you-go liability insurance in Illinois. Customers can buy coverage for days, weeks or months, and refill coverage at any time. “Instead of getting a quote for a month of insurance, we do the math and figure out how much you’ll pay for a single day of car insurance. We even show you how much you can expect to pay for car insurance per week. This will let you see how much you’ll save by turning your insurance off for days your car sits on the street, in the driveway, or inside your garage. Next, it’s time to purchase days of insurance to add to your Hugo account. You can choose from packages of 3, 7, 14, or 30 days. We make this fast and easy – and you can always add more days to your account at any time.”

Judging by its website, coverage is underwritten by Columbus-based P&C insurer SafeAuto . Also, in the case that customers want full auto coverage, Hugo redirects them to SafeAuto.

Established in 2016, Hugo initially went live last year in California with a similar type of liability insurance coverage underwritten by Aspire General. At some point, the company paused offering coverage to new customers.
