The Iowa-based company was created by Kate Yanov, a marketing executive and a short term vacation rental host with properties all over the world. In case you haven’t watched the video, Property Protect was born following Kate’s real-life experience when she hosted a guy named Frank. The company offers hosts $10,000 worth of coverage for $4 a night, provided by “a subsidiary underwriting entity of Assurant.”
To get coverage, a host creates an account with Property Protect, to later add his/her rental calendar from platforms like Airbnb, Homeaway and VRBO. Then, all that’s left is to add a payment method and Property Protect will charge only for the days on the rental calendar.
The company plans to add a few more insurance products for the sharing economy in the future.
