MākuSafe has two thirds to go
West Des Moines-based wearables company MakuSafe announced its plans to launch its wearable armband device and MākuSmart SaaS platform this month after completing the final testing and certification. The company and a team of 14 plans to produce a limited amount of hardware devices for 2020, of which approximately a third have already been reserved by industrial users and workers compensation insurers. With the public launch, MākuSafe will also release the newest version of its safety management software, called MākuSmart 2.0.
Established in 2016, the company has recently announced a $1.5 million venture round bringing its total funding to date to $6.2 million. It is backed by EMC Insurance . The company develops a cloud-based safety system and a wearable armband device for gathering real-time environmental and human motion data to identify workplace risk, to improve safety and productivity as well as receive notifications when conditions become unfavorable for workers.
“The day has finally come where we have proven our technology works, and we can be an agent of change in the workplace. Each day across the world, thousands of employees suffer workplace injuries. Many don’t go home at the end of the day. We’re creating a product to change that, and it’s exciting to see companies embrace what we are doing.” – Gabriel Glynn, CEO and co-founder of MākuSafe.
“We recognize this technology is game-changing and critically important for our policyholders. We want to provide our agents and policyholders value beyond insurance. Cutting-edge technology that reduces potential injury in the workplace and using predictive data to identify risks before something happens are some of the ways we’re pursuing that.” – Bryon Snethen, vice president of risk improvement for EMC.
