Jewelers Mutual invests $10M in SCAD bench jeweler program

Jewelers Mutual and SCAD (Savannah Collage of Art and Design) dedicated the newly renamed Jewelers Mutual Studio as part of a long term partnership aimed at expanding bench jeweler education and addressing workforce shortages in the jewelry industry.

The initiative includes a $10 million, 10 year investment from Jewelers Mutual into SCAD’s jewelry program, supporting scholarships, updated training facilities, curriculum development, and career pathways for students entering the bench jeweler workforce.

According to the announcement, the upgraded studio includes laser welding technology, advanced engraving tools, 3D printers, casting equipment, and digital fabrication resources designed to combine traditional craftsmanship with modern production techniques.

The investment is intended to help address a growing shortage of skilled bench jewelers as retirements continue to outpace new entrants into the trade.

“Supporting the future of the jewelry industry means investing in the people who sustain it.” – Scott Murphy, CEO of Jewelers Mutual.
