Dutch adds AXIS as latest pet insurance carrier partner
Dutch , the virtual veterinary care company, has added AXIS Insurance Company as its newest insurance carrier partner, expanding the underwriting bench behind its pet insurance offerings.
The AXIS appointment sits alongside Dutch’s existing carrier relationships, which include Independence American Insurance Company, an underwriting carrier since 2023; American Pet Insurance Company, an early partner tied to Dutch’s insurance licensing structure; and Pets Best, which provides embedded, accident only emergency coverage as part of Dutch’s membership plans, offering up to $10,000 per year in coverage.
Pets Best coverage is underwritten by American Pet Insurance Company, Independence American Insurance Company, or MS Transverse Insurance Company, depending on the policy and state. The addition of AXIS raises questions about how Dutch plans to distribute pet insurance going forward, particularly whether AXIS will support new product structures, additional states, or alternative insurance placements alongside its existing embedded and appointed carrier model.
Dutch positions insurance as a complement to its core virtual care offering. Members receive unlimited video visits with licensed veterinarians, prescription fulfillment, and optional accident only insurance that can be used at any US veterinary clinic without pre approval.
