Experian adds rental history to Experian Connect API

Experian introduced a new enhancement to its Experian Connect API with the addition of the RentBureau Consumer Profile. The update allows renters to share their credit and rental histories in real time with landlords and property managers, streamlining the application process and increasing approval rates.

With access to nearly 40 million renter profiles, the feature leverages Experian’s RentBureau database, eliminating the need for landlords to manually verify rental history. The integration is designed to benefit consumers with limited credit histories but positive rental payment records, while also reducing time and cost for property managers.

Experian Connect API, launched in 2011, delivers secure, real-time credit and rental insights directly into landlord and property management platforms. The new feature builds on existing capabilities including identity verification, consumer-permissioned data, instant reports, and comprehensive screening tools.

The enhancement arrives as rental costs rise and competition intensifies, with nearly a quarter of renters reporting they’ve been denied housing due to credit scores. Experian’s update aims to give renters greater control over their applications and provide lenders with a fuller picture as credit scoring models evolve to incorporate positive rental payment data.
