Allianz backs Canadian fintech Purpose Financial
Allianz X , the digital investment unit of Allianz , has acquired a stake in Toronto-based Purpose Financial , a company that offers a digital asset management platform for private clients, independent financial advisors, and SME lending.
Allianz X invested in newly issued shares for the equivalent of 34.5 million euros, making it the second-largest external shareholder. Allianz X will also have a seat on Purpose Financial’s Board of Directors. The transaction is subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities.
Founded in 2012, Purpose Financial (a team of ~17) has three lines of business: Purpose Investments, a digital asset management service for private clients and institutions, currently with approximately 10 billion Canadian dollars in assets under management; Purpose Advisor Solutions, a technology and service platform for independent financial advisors, currently servicing approximately 2 billion Canadian dollars in assets; and Thinking Capital, a digital lending and fintech platform for SME companies, which has originated over 1 billion Canadian dollars in loans in collaboration with major banks and other partners.
