Watches Of Switzerland acquires watch site Hodinkee

Watches Of Switzerland has acquired Hodinkee , an online watch publication known for its website, print magazine, watch insurance service, and collaborations with watch brands on limited-edition products.

The acquisition includes Hodinkee’s insurance business in partnership with Chubb . Benjamin Clymer, Hodinkee’s founder, will return as the primary decision-maker after stepping down in 2020.

The retail operations will be scaled back, allowing Hodinkee to focus on its editorial content. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Hodinkee will continue to operate independently under WOS.

In a blog post covering the news, Benjamin Clymer, the founder of Hodinkee, wrote: “I started writing about watches on the domain www.hodinkee.com over 16 years ago. Since then, we’ve had a pretty good run. Actually, you know what, we’ve had a really, really good run. It has been a run that I never could’ve imagined, frankly, sitting in my fourth-floor walk-up on Spring Street when I first registered this domain.”
