Tokio Marine backs The Phage

Tokyo-based health technology startup The Phage  announced ¥570 million in equity and debt financing in the first close of its Series A round.

Itochu Technology Ventures led the round, with Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance and Fukui Capital Partners joining as new shareholders. Existing investors Genesia Ventures and Vision Incubate also participated, while Shoko Chukin Bank provided debt financing.

Founded in 2021, The Phage develops AI that analyzes blood glucose data to support personalized preventive care. Its Glucose Flight platform helps users understand how food and lifestyle habits affect their blood sugar and supports tailored nutritional guidance.

Alongside the financing, The Phage signed a capital and business alliance with Tokio Marine Holdings  to explore commercializing healthcare solutions across the insurance group, including services aimed at preventing lifestyle-related diseases from worsening.

The funding will support domestic and international expansion of Glucose Flight and development of CGFM, its AI model trained on continuous glucose monitoring data.

The investment builds on an existing collaboration with Tokio Marine & Nichido. In March, their joint project was selected for a Japanese government program supporting product validation, with plans to test personalized, AI-based support for lifestyle changes.
