Sompo partners with DRS Group on hail repair platform

Sompo Japan , a subsidiary of Sompo Holdings , announced a strategic partnership with Germany-based DRS Group to build a rapid vehicle repair platform for hail disasters in Japan.

The partnership will combine Sompo Japan’s insurance and digital capabilities with DRS’s paintless dent repair (PDR) technology and AI-powered vehicle scanners. DRS says its scanners can assess an entire vehicle in 30 seconds and that the company previously repaired more than 40,000 hail-damaged vehicles in 13 weeks.

The companies plan to establish diagnostic hubs in affected areas within 72 hours of a hail event, allowing customers to receive repair estimates and booking timelines faster. Sompo and DRS also intend to digitize the claims and repair process end-to-end through system integration.

Additional initiatives include developing hail prediction and alert capabilities, supporting inventory risk management for automakers and dealers, and training PDR technicians in Japan while maintaining access to overseas specialists during large-scale events.

Joint services are expected to begin in May 2026.
