Plymouth Rock Acquires MAPFRE Insurance Company of NY

Plymouth Rock Assurance announced its plan to acquire MAPFRE Insurance Company of New York. The transaction involves both personal auto and home insurance business in New York. Additionally, certain Plymouth Rock companies also acquired replacement carrier rights for auto and home insurance business in New Jersey from American Commerce Insurance Company (ACIC), a MAPFRE company.

With annual premiums exceeding $1.3B, the insurer writes auto and home insurance in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and now, New York.

The acquisition follows Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation’s announcement in April that it had entered the New York auto and home insurance market by purchasing 21st Century National Insurance Company. Plymouth Rock intends to offer auto and home insurance policies to new customers in New York later this year, pending regulatory approval.

One more thing. The insurer recently announced a partnership with the New York Yankees and the launch of Pinstripe Perks Program, an exclusive auto insurance program delivering both Yankees fan benefits and extra car insurance coverages to drivers in CT and NJ. Fine Print: eligibility for the Pinstripe Perks program requires purchasing the Pinstripe Perks endorsement for an annual fee of $20 and a Plymouth Rock Assurance Connecticut or New Jersey private passenger auto insurance policy.
