OnStar Insurance files auto insurance programs in Arizona and Texas
Last month we reported that GM subsidiary General Motors Insurance stopped referring shoppers to American Family.
GM has been working on setting up its own carrier operations and the OnStar site currently states that policies are underwritten and issued by the OnStar National Insurance Company. But as we reported, the new version of OnStar Insurance is still in the works.
Now, based on filing data, we have some more information about OnStar National Insurance Company. General Motors Financial Company, another subsidiary of GM, recently acquired American Service Insurance Company from Buckle and changed its name to OnStar National Insurance Company.
The carrier has filed two new programs in Arizona and Texas and based on the filings, there’s a telematics component. There’s also several discounts, including an affinity discount for policyholders who qualify for one or more of the following GM relationships: OnStar subscriber, GM Rewards member, GM or GM Financial employee, and multiple GM vehicles insured in the household. The company says that it expects approximately 50% of policyholders to have at least one GM relationship.
