MetLife Pet adds Memorial Tree Program

MetLife Pet Insurance  is launching a Memorial Tree Program that will honor insured pets by supporting the planting of a tree in a U.S. National Forest when a covered pet passes away.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the The National Forest Foundation , is scheduled to launch this month. Policyholders who cancel their coverage following the death of a pet will receive a sympathy card informing them that a memorial tree will be planted in their pet’s honor.

The program builds on MetLife Pet Insurance’s existing grief counseling services, provided through TELUS Health . Eligible policyholders can access trained counselors for support during end-of-life decisions and in the months following a pet’s death.

The National Forest Foundation oversees one of the largest reforestation efforts in the U.S., restoring forests affected by wildfire, disease, and other environmental challenges.

“Pets are family, and the loss of a pet can be one of the most emotional experiences a person can face. We’re focused on showing up for pet parents during that time, not only by helping them honor their pets, but by offering support when they need it most.” –  Brian Jorgensen, head of MetLife Pet Insurance.
