MetLife Japan raises starting salaries for office-based employees

MetLife Japan will revise its compensation structure for office-based employees starting June 2026, increasing fixed monthly pay and reducing the emphasis on seasonal bonuses as part of an effort to provide more stable compensation and support long term employee retention.

The insurer said the changes are designed to help employees better plan for the future while continuing to support high quality customer service. MetLife also noted that it has continued to expand its HR systems and employee benefits in response to changes in work environments and social conditions, including receiving certification from Great Place To Work® Institute.

Under the revised structure, the starting salary for university graduates in office-based roles such as agency consulting and actuarial positions will increase from ¥278,000 to ¥400,000 per month, including prepaid severance pay and a fixed overtime allowance equivalent to 20 hours.

MetLife said it views employees as the foundation of its business and plans to continue enhancing compensation and workplace benefits to create an environment where employees can work with stability and confidence.
