VP, Product Management Leader

As the VP, Product Management Leader for our new Voluntary Homeowners Insurance product, you will be responsible for leading the strategy and execution of the product portfolio to achieve the line of business objectives.  You will plan, direct and manage efforts to develop and implement Assurant’s Voluntary Homeowners Insurance and optimize profit and growth in the business.  As the VP, Product Management Leader, your primary goal is to lead, facilitate the creation and management of products that deliver value to our partners, consumers, and the line of business.  This will include strategic product planning, oversight of current State filings, product enhancements and ongoing life cycle management of the product suite.

As the VP, you will work in a matrix management environment with a wide variety of disciplines (Sales, Account Management, Operations, IT, Finance, Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims, Marketing, Legal, Customer Experience and Executive Leadership) to deliver core services while maximizing profitability for the business.  You will coach, mentor, develop, manage and direct the Product Management and Business Product Owner Team on strategic initiatives, required analysis and reporting needs for clients and comprehensive understanding of our expenses and profitability.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of Voluntary Homeowners Insurance including product filing, underwriting, distribution strategy, innovation and value propositioning
  • Deliver on commitments to key clients and stakeholders
  • Drive the strategy and execution of the LOB product suite
  • Ensures the development and delivery of consistent and robust product roadmaps for each of the solutions in the product portfolio
  • Leads, mentors, and develops the product management team
  • Ensures product management team is properly resourced and has a strong understanding of market trends and competition
  • Meets and interacts directly with current and prospective customers to gain voice of the customer (VOC) to ensure that the product suite meets the needs of our customers
  • Develops, enhances and matures the product management processes and discipline
  • Lead the development of the product to include product filing, underwriting, distribution strategy, innovation and value propositioning
  • Identifying opportunities that lead to the growth of the product through innovation while still maintaining the fundamental business goals/priorities to influence the business’s product strategy and ensures that the business makes informed and beneficial decisions when presented to the key stakeholders
  • Overseeing the innovation and improvement of the Voluntary Homeowners product as well as the day-to-day product activities in such a way that ensures that the product is constantly growing to suit the consumers’ needs
  • Provide general Product Management guidance and direction to support Client requests, regulatory changes, marketing campaigns and operations initiatives
  • Lead and liaison with IT on key business initiatives and client requests


  • 10 years’ experience of product development and management
  • 10 years’ experience leading the work of senior level direct reports
  • 10 years’ experience interacting with large clients and developing strategic relationships
  • P&C/ Voluntary Homeowners experience

Preferred Experience & Skills:

  • Experienced with processing complex time sensitive data and information from multiple sources, make decisions based on this data, and to effectively communicate the related required actions to a broad audience
  • Extensive experience working with internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Analytical capability to support product management decisions
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and effectively negotiate with and persuade individuals over whom do not have direct supervisory authority
  • Work strategically and conceptually with a long-term (2 to 5 years) focus on impacts and outcomes
  • Leadership abilities to inspire and coach colleagues and to drive the division’s objectives for profitable growth
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding ability to quickly provide sound decisions and recommendations with less than complete information
