Empire Life adds Mental Health Navigator to group benefits

Empire Life will automatically include the Mental Health Navigator in its group benefits plans starting May 1, 2020. The service is offered in partnership with Best Doctors, part of Teladoc Health.

“We’re excited to bring this outstanding service to our customers. According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, one in five Canadians will experience a mental health problem this year. And now with COVID-19, life is a lot more challenging for many Canadians – especially those employed by small and medium-sized enterprises. Mental Health Navigator helps our customers and their families access guidance and resources they may need to feel more like themselves again.” – Vanessa Lycos, Vice President, Group Product and Marketing.

The economic burden of mental illness in Canada is estimated at $51 billion per year as reported by the Center for Addiction & Mental Health (CAMH).

“With more than 20 years of experience in Canada, Teladoc Health is at the forefront of supporting employers with resources to positively impact plan members lives. Mental Health Navigator is one such resource, designed to aid mental health in the workplace through a safe and private process. As increased awareness and acceptance of the need for mental health grows within and outside the workplace, support services like Mental Health Navigator are more important than ever before to employers and their members.” – Karen Grant, Vice President, Global Product Development, Teladoc Health .
