CUNA Mutual Announces Senior Leader Promotions
CUNA Mutual Group President and CEO Robert N. Trunzo has announced several senior executive level changes in the company’s Business Experience unit and AdvantEdge Analytics business designed to further enhance the credit union customer experience.
David Sweitzer has been promoted to senior vice president, Business Experience, where he leads a highly diverse and talented team of professionals shaping all aspects of the CUNA Mutual Group experience with credit unions, small businesses, advisors and distribution partners.
Sweitzer joined the firm in 1991 and most recently served as president and CEO of MEMBERS Life Insurance Company and senior vice president of Wealth Management. In this capacity, he led CUNA Brokerage Services, Inc. (CBSI), oversaw one of the fastest growing annuity manufacturing and distribution businesses in the country and managed $3 billion in annual sales.
“David is a highly-respected leader with a successful track record across several business lines,” said Trunzo. “His passion for enhancing our value with credit unions as we help them grow will benefit our customers and our company.”
Reporting to Sweitzer is Rob Purtell, who now leads Credit Union Sales as senior vice president. Purtell and his team will work to further differentiate CUNA Mutual Group and deliver full value as an indispensable business partner to credit unions.
“Rob is an exemplary leader and partner, who for more than 20 years has inspired higher levels of performance time and again within our company,” Trunzo said. “He’s a relentless champion for the credit union movement and his customer-centric passion makes him the ideal person to take our Credit Union Sales team to the next level.”
Lastly, Mike Defnet has been named president of CUNA Mutual Group AdvantEdge Analytics, a business that provides comprehensive technology and data analytics services for credit unions. Defnet previously served as senior vice president, Business Experience, and replaces Tim Peterson, who will leave the company July 1.
CUNA Mutual Group remains deeply committed to AdvantEdge Analytics, Trunzo added. “As head of our business experience unit which includes the sales organization, Mike developed an outstanding reputation in the credit union space and has deep personal relationships with many credit union leaders. He will drive strategic discussions about the value AdvantEdge will bring to help credit unions grow and serve their members.”
Trunzo praised Peterson for his leadership and the significant role he played in building the AdvantEdge business from the ground up to make it an industry-leading data and analytics provider for credit unions.
“Over the last two years, AdvantEdge Analytics has grown from an idea to an emerging platform business. Credit unions are excited to partner with us, and we are showing how a tech-enabled, analytics-driven software and services business can help credit unions grow and diversify to compete with large financial institutions and fintechs.”
