Cruise pauses all driverless robotaxi operations

Cruise announced that it is pausing all driverless operations. “We have decided to proactively pause driverless operations across all of our fleets while we take time to examine our processes, systems, and tools and reflect on how we can better operate in a way that will earn public trust,” the company shared on X.

Earlier this week, the California DMV suspended Cruise’s autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing permits. The department stated that the suspension was based upon the performance of the vehicles, adding that the manufacturer misrepresented information related to safety of the autonomous technology of its vehicles.

The autonomous vehicle maker had previously initiated driverless operations in San Francisco, Austin, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Miami, and Nashville.
