Chewy to acquire SmartEquine
Chewy has agreed to acquire SmartEquine, formerly known as SmartPak, from Covetrus in an all-cash transaction expected to close in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025.
SmartEquine is a U.S. provider of equine health products, recognized for its subscription-based supplement programs, personalized nutrition plans, and a broad range of tack, gear, and therapeutic products. The company rebranded from SmartPak in July 2025 to reflect its growing focus on equine wellness and innovation.
The acquisition expands Chewy’s position in the equine category and strengthens its presence in high-margin health and wellness verticals. SmartEquine’s recurring revenue model aligns with Chewy’s existing subscription-driven approach, offering opportunities to increase customer lifetime value within a passionate and underserved segment.
Chewy expects the transaction to be accretive to adjusted EBITDA margins upon closing. The company plans to combine SmartEquine’s premium portfolio and loyal customer base with Chewy’s logistics and customer service infrastructure to deliver an enhanced experience for equine customers nationwide.
Chewy reaffirmed its third-quarter fiscal 2025 financial guidance following the announcement.

“We are thrilled to welcome SmartEquine to Chewy. Together, we’ll bring even greater expertise, convenience, and care as a trusted destination for the equine community.” – Mita Malhotra, President, Chewy Health.
