ADT acquires Origin AI for $170 million

ADT has acquired Origin AI  for $170 million in cash, adding AI-based WiFi sensing technology designed to detect human presence and activity in the home without cameras, audio, or wearables.

Origin’s platform analyzes changes in WiFi signals to understand occupancy, motion, and anomalies, which ADT expects will help reduce false alarms, add context to alarm events, and support new use cases such as aging-in-place monitoring and occupancy-based automation. The acquisition includes more than 200 patents and is expected to support new offerings beginning in 2027.

Origin, backed by Verizon Ventures, was founded in 2013, has raised nearly $50 million, and has a team of about 66 employees, according to LinkedIn.
