Google partners with ADT
Provider of security and smart home solutions ADT and Google are joining forces in the form of a long-term partnership to create “the next generation of smart home security offerings.” As part of the partnership, Google’s Nest hardware will be integrated at ADT, which does system installations and monitoring with the plan of starting to offer Google devices to its customers starting this year.
Google is also making a $450 million investment in ADT in exchange for 6.6% equity stake in the company. In addition, each company will commit an additional $150 million, subject to the achievement of certain milestones, to be used for co-marketing, product development, technology and employee training to advance the partnership.
“We are thrilled to partner with Google to provide the smart home market with a strong, differentiated product and service offering that integrates the best technology, hardware and smart home security expertise from our two brands. Google’s partnership and financial investment in ADT underscores the depth of our joint commitment to the smart home and security markets. Our entire leadership team is looking forward to continuing our work with Google as we define the future of helpful home security and build a productive long-term partnership.” – Jim DeVries, President and CEO of ADT.
“The goal is to give customers fewer false alarms, more ways to receive alarm events, and better detection of potential incidents inside and around the home. It will also provide people with more helpful notifications that make everyday life more convenient, like package detection. ADT customers will also have access to Nest Aware, a service that keeps people informed about important events at home, including intelligent alerts and event history recording for up to 30 days,” said Rishi Chandra, GM and Vice President of Nest in a blog post.
