Michelle Bottomley Joins New York Life as CMO
New York Life has appointed Michelle Bottomley as chief marketing officer (CMO). As the most senior marketing leader at the company, Ms. Bottomley is responsible for the New York Life brand across the enterprise, with a distinct focus on driving business outcomes for the company’s core life insurance business. She reports to Matt Grove, executive vice president, who oversees the company’s individual life business, as well as New York Life’s service, technology and strategic planning functions.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Bottomley served as chief marketing officer at Staples, and before that, as chief marketing and sales officer at Mercer. Her first CMO role was with Barclaycard in the U.S. and then globally. She began her marketing career at Digitas, managed data-driven loyalty marketing at Epsilon, and led the North America marketing consulting team and the New York office for Ogilvy.

Ms. Bottomley is currently a board director for Bose Corporation, as well as the Society of Human Resource Management, the global credentialing organization for the human resources profession. She has been recognized by the Direct Marketing News “Marketing Hall of Femme,” NOW NYC “Women of Power and Influence,” Advertising Women of New York’s “Working Mother of the Year,” and AdAge’s “Women to Watch.” She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northeastern University.
