Markel launches clinical trial travel coverage

Markel International has launched a travel reimbursement enhancement for life sciences companies and other sponsors conducting rare-disease clinical trials.

The coverage reimburses trial sponsors for eligible expenses associated with international travel by registered participants to and from clinical trial sites. Payments are made to the sponsor rather than directly to participants.

Eligible participants who have been medically cleared to travel can also access 24-hour medical assistance and care coordination from Healix.

The product is available through brokers and is designed to address gaps in traditional travel insurance, which may exclude preexisting conditions or travel undertaken to participate in a clinical trial.
