Markel launches US energy property offering
Markel International launched Chemical, Oil & Gas related Energy Property (CORE), a property insurance offering for small to midsize US-domiciled businesses.
The offering covers property damage, business interruption and, for selected risks, equipment breakdown, with limits of up to $50 million on a primary and excess-of-loss basis. Coverage includes natural catastrophe exposures such as flood, windstorm and earthquake.
Target businesses include chemical and petrochemical companies, natural gas transmission and storage operations, terminals, gas processing facilities, and other onshore midstream and downstream operations.
Candice Walker, who joined Markel in 2015, was appointed Head of First-Party Energy to lead the offering alongside Markel International’s existing Midstream and Downstream underwriting teams.
Markel also appointed Texas-based Michael McClain as Senior Underwriter – Energy, reporting to Walker. He joins from Tomorrow RNG, an Enbridge subsidiary, where he managed technical operations, and previously held facilities, construction and production roles at Aethon Energy.
