Sompo appoints country manager for Belgium and the Netherlands

Sompo International appointed Bart Van Gysegem as Country Manager, Insurance for Belgium and the Netherlands, effective immediately.

Based in Brussels, Van Gysegem will report to Ralph Brand, President, Insurance, Continental Europe and Turkey, and will oversee Sompo’s insurance operations across both countries as the company expands its local presence.

Van Gysegem joins Sompo from Aon, where he most recently served as Managing Director of the Belux Major Accounts segment. Prior to Aon, he spent two decades in senior management roles at international insurance carriers.

The appointment follows Sompo receiving regulatory approval last year to write primary insurance locally in Belgium and the Netherlands. As part of the expansion, the company also announced new offices in Brussels and Rotterdam.

The buildout is part of its broader Continental Europe growth strategy focused on strengthening local infrastructure and delivering commercial insurance solutions through regional teams.
