Bot Auto secures insurance with the help of Marsh
Bot Auto, the Houston-based autonomous freight company building a Transportation-as-a-Service model, has secured an insurance program to support the commercial deployment of its driverless truck fleet. The coverage—underwritten by an A-rated carrier and placed by Marsh —includes auto liability, property, general liability, cargo, inland marine, and a separate cyber policy.

The company argues that autonomy-native operations create a different risk profile for insurers. Bot Auto’s trucks generate consistent driving behavior, real-time data, and full traceability, reducing ambiguity around fault and improving loss investigation—a key point as the trucking industry continues to face rising legal and financial exposure, including nuclear verdicts.
Bot Auto is already running driverless commercial loads between Houston and San Antonio, with more lanes planned. The Marsh placement signals that autonomous freight operators can meet the underwriting and operational standards required for broader commercialization.
“Qualifying for Marsh’s AV insurance program requires a comprehensive risk mitigation approach that goes beyond standard industry practices. This placement of Bot Auto’s insurance program thus marks another milestone in the advancement of autonomous trucking in the US and underscores the important role the insurance industry plays in its development. Marsh is committed to supporting the AV industry with the specialized risk and insurance solutions they need to grow their business and thrive.” – Owen Oakley, Managing Director, Marsh.
