AG Insurance enters the Dutch underwriting market
AG Insurance , Belgium’s largest insurer, is expanding into the Netherlands as part of its Elevate27 strategy, marking its first move beyond its home market. The company plans to enter the Dutch non-life insurance sector through authorized agents, initially offering Fire and Liability coverage to business customers via a newly established branch office.
According to Managing Director Edwin Klaps, AG sees strong growth potential in the Dutch market, complementing its organic expansion in Belgium. The insurer has received regulatory approval from the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) to operate in the Netherlands under the power of attorney model, a common structure in the Dutch insurance sector.
To lead this effort, AG has appointed Barend van der Wall, formerly Director of Power of Attorney at Heinenoord Assuradeuren, to oversee the company’s Dutch expansion. The next phase will focus on securing partnerships with authorized agents and formally launching operations.
