Zurich Australia appoints Chief Risk Officer

Zurich Financial Services Australia has appointed David Wainwright as the new Chief Risk Officer for Australia and New Zealand, effective January 6, 2025. Wainwright, who has nearly 25 years of experience in financial services, joins from Zurich UK, where he currently serves as Chief Risk Officer for its Life business. His extensive background includes various risk management and leadership roles at Zurich UK, Nomura Securities, Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), and HSBC Global Banking and Markets.

In his new role, Wainwright will be relocating from the UK to Sydney and will report to Sid Medappa, Zurich’s Regional Head of Risk for Asia Pacific (APAC). His appointment comes as Zurich looks to strengthen its local risk strategy amidst an increasingly complex environment.

Wainwright will succeed Jaimie Sach, who is retiring after serving as Chief Risk Officer at Zurich since 2019 and a distinguished 30-year career in the wealth industry.
