Zocdoc acquires Sohar Health

Zocdoc has acquired Sohar Health , a startup that automates health insurance discovery and benefits verification. The deal closed October 2 and marks the first acquisition in Zocdoc’s nearly 20-year history. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Founded in 2023 by Ashish Mandavia and Lucas Gordon, Sohar can identify patients’ insurance coverage using basic information such as their name and date of birth, then verify benefits and check whether a provider is in-network. Its APIs also support cost estimates and cover more than 1,000 US payers. Customers include BetterHelp, Headway, Rula, and Talkiatry.

Zocdoc has used Sohar as its insurance technology partner since 2025. The acquisition follows the launch of Zocdoc’s Care Access Network, which lets partners including Amazon Health AI, Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades, and Blue Shield of California offer provider availability and appointment booking directly through their platforms.

Sohar will retain its name, products, and customer relationships while continuing to develop its insurance capabilities.
