Way.com introduces catastrophe loss mitigation program
Car app Way.com and CURE (Citizens United Reciprocal Exchange) are partnering beyond conventional auto insurance.
The initiative, called the Catastrophe Loss Mitigation program, offers a service for customers in areas projected to be impacted by severe hurricanes and flooding. Customers will receive phone alerts in advance of the storm, providing them with prepaid local parking garage reservations and Uber credits for transportation to and from the drop-off location.
CURE is the first auto insurer to offer this type of hurricane and flood loss prevention. Three additional carriers have joined the program, and Way.com aims to partner with more insurers.
The program is available in hurricane-affected states, including Florida, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, with secured parking garages ready for customers during major weather events.
As a side note, in 2011, Budget Direct became the first insurer in Australia to implement hail warnings, alerting its customers with location-specific text messages via its so-called Hail Hero service.
This isn’t Way.com’s first foray into insurance. The company allows shoppers to obtain car insurance quotes online. The insurance offerings are presented by Wilson Mathew Nechikat Insurance Agency, which has appointments with Lemonade, Progressive, Travelers, Toggle, and others.
Finally, CURE is a non-standard auto insurer operating in only three states: New Jersey (where it has the naming rights to CURE Insurance Arena until 2027), Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Bottom Line: America averaged 13 major flood disasters a year as of 2019.
