Wawanesa Insurance rebrands as W Insurance
Wawanesa Insurance has changed its name to W Insurance Company following its 2024 acquisition by an insurer affiliated with the Automobile Club of Southern California.
The San Diego-based insurer serves more than 300,000 policies in California, offering auto, homeowners, condo and renters insurance directly to consumers.
The change is limited to the company’s branding. Coverage, premiums, policy terms, discounts and claims handling remain unchanged, and existing insurance cards will remain valid through their expiration dates.
Wawanesa entered California in 1975 as a subsidiary of Canada-based Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. Under its new name, W Insurance will remain part of the Auto Club of Southern California organization.

“While our name has changed, who we are has not. Our mission is to serve our members, and that commitment continues to guide us every day. As W Insurance, we remain focused on supporting our members and the communities they call home, rooted in our values of putting people first, working as a team, and doing right by people. This change reflects a simpler name that modernizes our brand as we remain true to our values of service and dedication to protecting our members.” – Chris Henn, President, W Insurance.
