Volvo launches new telematics app

Volvo is introducing Safety Coach, a new telematics app that offers drivers driving insights and tips directly through the infotainment screen and the Volvo Cars mobile app. The tips are based on the driver’s behavior in daily traffic, such as braking, acceleration and cornering, and each driver will receive their own personal Safety Coach score.

The tips are guided by findings from Volvo’s “decades-worth of real-world safety knowledge and data,” and the app is powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics.

Starting in Sweden and Norway, drivers of most Volvo cars from model year 2020 can soon download the app. In addition, customers in Sweden and Norway will soon be able to share their driving data with Volvia, which is part of If Insurance, for potential insurance discounts.

In the future, the Safety Coach app will be introduced in the United States and other European markets. Insurance-related offers are also planned as part of this roll-out.
