Via is looking to enter insurance

Via Software, a mobile commerce platform for D2C brands, is looking to get into insurance.

The California-based startup, which raised close to $20 million, has established a subsidiary company, Friendly Insurance, focused on providing “world-class shipping protection coverage to e-commerce merchants and their customers.”

We did some digging and it appears that this is Friendly Insurance.

There’s also a video:

Based on the insurance disclosure available on the site, coverage under the Via Shipping Insurance Program is provided by a cargo insurance policy issued to Via, Inc. through SEG Insurance Ltd. and produced through Friendly Insurance Agency, Inc, a licensed insurance producer and subsidiary of Via.

The coverage will have some form of integration where ecommerce stores will be able to embed the offering at checkout. Friendly will offer coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged packages up to $2,500. Last, Friendly is currently beta testing with Shopify stores according to its site.
