Unagi is expanding
Initially only available in New York and Los Angeles, Oakland-based electric scooter startup Unagi Scooters is expanding its “All-Access” subscription service to Austin, Miami, Nashville, Phoenix, the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle. The service provides customers with their own electric scooter without the commitment (or expense) of actually buying it.
Here’s how it works: “All-Access” customers pay a flat $49 monthly fee that includes maintenance and insurance for scooter theft or damage. Once subscribed, the company delivers its Model One scooter to your door via FedEx within 72 hours. If you run into any maintenance trouble, the startup will send a replacement that arrives in less than 72 hours.
The company also announced that it has raised $10.5 million in a Series A funding round led by The Ecosystem Integrity Fund with participation from Menlo Ventures, Broadway Angels, and Gaingels, among others.
