TPG to acquire Learfield

TPG has agreed to acquire Learfield, a media and technology platform powering college athletics.

Learfield connects more than 12,000 brands with over 1,200 collegiate institutions, offering sponsorship, ticketing, licensing, and data-driven fan engagement tools.

Its platform is built on a dataset of over 125 million fan records and supports programs across major conferences including the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, and SEC.

The deal comes as insurers increasingly tap sports partnerships for distribution and brand reach.

Recent moves highlight insurers leaning further into basketball: GEICO partnered with the Dallas Wings, expanded its NCAA presence, and signed Azzi Fudd as its first female athlete partner. State Farm continues to build around its basketball-focused “With the Assist” platform, while Jewelers Mutual partnered with NC State Athletics.
