Tower struggles
New Zealand-based Tower Insurance company plans to split its business into two separate businesses called New Tower and RunOff Co. The latter business will be dedicated to handling earthquake claims in Canterbury. The insurer is going through tough times lately as it faces $21.5 million in losses; in part due to increased earthquake claims. Bottom Line: the split will require access to new capital and is pending shareholders’ approval.
