Tokio Marine-backed WOTA plans water infrastructure council

Japanese water technology company WOTA is preparing to establish a council to help local governments plan sustainable water infrastructure as populations decline and water systems age.

The proposed Water Infrastructure Best Mix Promotion Council would evaluate how existing water and sewage networks, septic tanks, and smaller decentralized water recycling systems could work together. WOTA expects the council to examine costs, maintenance, water quality, disaster readiness, financing, and insurance, with a goal of formally establishing it by the end of 2026. Participating organizations have not yet been announced.

WOTA develops systems that treat and reuse water on site, including units designed for use during water outages. Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance  was among the investors in the company’s Series C financing announced in April.
