The Hartford launches HartBuild, IC

The Hartford has introduced HartBuild, IC, a new member-owned commercial construction captive designed to help mid-to-large contractors manage risk more effectively. Developed in partnership with Strategic Risk Solutions (SRS) as the captive manager, the Vermont-domiciled program offers members shared ownership, greater control over claims and underwriting, and access to The Hartford’s risk management and engineering expertise.

HartBuild, IC targets classes such as concrete, electrical, excavation, general contracting, mechanical, and steel. Coverage includes workers’ compensation, general liability, auto liability, and specialized protections like owners and contractors protective liability.

Members benefit from The Hartford’s A+ financial strength rating, real-time loss performance reports, and access to IoT-enabled loss prevention tools through its Risk Engineering team. Additional coverages outside the captive—such as property, pollution, D&O, and umbrella—can be customized to meet complex needs.

By combining The Hartford’s underwriting and claims capabilities with SRS’s captive management experience, HartBuild, IC offers contractors a flexible and financially stable risk-sharing alternative in a market increasingly focused on control and transparency.
