The Hartford expands Asia presence

The Hartford has opened a new service company in Singapore, extending its expertise to one of the world’s largest commercial wholesale markets through its Lloyd’s Syndicate 1221 and expanding its presence in Asia. The Hartford has named Zhenghong Pan to lead the service company.

The Hartford’s Lloyd’s Syndicate 1221 has been established in Asia for more than 13 years, with existing service companies in Hong Kong and Shanghai. The newly launched Singapore operation will initially focus on underwriting Financial Lines and Credit & Political Risks coverage. Over time, The Hartford will expand its product offerings across a variety of industries to provide more risk solutions to customers.

Pan joined The Hartford in November, 2024 from AXA XL in Singapore, where he led a team of underwriters and managed the financial lines portfolio. Pan’s leadership was instrumental in developing key market relationships and business strategies. Additionally, Pan served on AXA XL’s Singapore Executive Committee.

Lloyd’s Syndicate 1221 is a key part of The Hartford’s Global Specialty business, which provides specialty insurance coverage to businesses of all sizes across a range of industries and around the world. Specialised insurance and risk solutions include Marine & Energy, Financial Lines, Casualty, and Credit & Political Risks.

“Our new service company in Singapore broadens The Hartford’s reach across the Asia market and enhances our support to customers and brokers conducting business around the globe. Our customers and brokers in Asia will have access to our growing team of specialised underwriters and claims personnel who possess a deep technical knowledge of the unique and complex risks placed in Singapore. I’m thrilled that Zhenghong will be leading the service company, bringing his deep understanding of the Asia market and underwriting excellence within the Financial Lines sector.” – Carl Bach, head of International and CEO of Hartford Underwriting Agency Limited, the Lloyd’s managing agency for Syndicate 1221.

“We’re delighted to play our part in what is both an incredibly important milestone for The Hartford and the Lloyd’s Asia platform. Expansion of underwriting capabilities further bolster the capacity, expertise and talent in Singapore, improving market access and ultimately providing a better service to our customers.” – Emma Loynes, chief executive officer of Lloyd’s Asia.

“It’s an honour to lead The Hartford Singapore and further expand the company’s international reach. We aim to create an extraordinary experience for our brokers and customers, allowing them access to invaluable services such as our economic and geopolitical research team.” – Zhenghong Pan.
