Tesla files new insurance program in California

Tesla Insurance Company has filed a new private passenger auto insurance program in California using its newly-acquired carrier. The proposed effective date for the new program is April 1, 2023.

Tesla has been offering car insurance in the state of California since August 2019 in partnership with State National. The Markel-owned company supports Tesla’s insurance offering in other states including Illinois, Arizona, and Ohio.

Based on a state filing from November of last year, the State National/Tesla insurance program had over 50k policyholders.
