South Africa’s 1st Non-Commercial Drone Insurance

Drone Covered, South Africa’s first non-commercial drone insurance with no prerequisites has launched earlier this month.

Powered by London-based technology company Briisk, and insured by Old Mutual Insure, Drone Covered offers the first fully digital drone insurance with coverage on and off the ground. The company also provides benefits to those who complete a drone proficiency course such as increasing the 3rd party liability coverage from R500,000 to R1,000,000 with no extra cost, and reducing the excess claims from 20% to 10%.

The company behind Drone Covered is Surestart Online Financial Services, a Cape Town-based enabler that is innovating in the global short term & long term insurance sector by providing quick-to-market distribution channels for established insurance companies. It is led by Henk Ross, and has secured an undisclosed Series A round from a European institutional investor.
