Snowflake acquires Neeva

Snowflake , a cloud data platform used by GEICO, is acquiring Neeva, a search company founded to make search even more intelligent at scale. Neeva created a search experience that leverages generative AI and other innovations to allow users to query and discover data in new ways.

Snowflake shared that it plans to infuse and leverage these innovations across the Data Cloud to the benefit of its customers, partners and developers. “Neeva allows us to tap into some of the most cutting-edge search technologies available to bring search and conversation in Snowflake to a new level.”

Neeva , founded in 2019, raised over $77 million to seamlessly blend LLMs into a search stack stating that its team rallied around the vision to create an answer engine. But up until four days ago, when it announced it will shut down on June 2, it wasn’t on a viable path to creating a sustainable business. “But throughout this journey, we’ve discovered that it is one thing to build a search engine, and an entirely different thing to convince regular users of the need to switch to a better choice. From the unnecessary friction required to change default search settings, to the challenges in helping people understand the difference between a search engine and a browser, acquiring users has been really hard. Contrary to popular belief, convincing users to pay for a better experience was actually a less difficult problem compared to getting them to try a new search engine in the first place,” shared Neeva.

Now, Neeva will concentrate on enterprise clients through its parent company.
