Shares raises $40 million

Social investment app Shares has raised $40 million in funding led by Valar Ventures. In March, the UK-based startup raised a similar amount.

Founded in 2021, Shares allows users to invest in stocks with as little as £1. The app, which is currently live in the UK, features social components such as allowing users to follow their friends’ investments, advice sharing, and more. According to its site, Shares has over 150k users and it plans to launch across Europe.

“This latest investment from Valar Ventures will only serve to strengthen our growing momentum. We are now also looking at the next stage of expansion in Europe, which in turn will act as a springboard to an international audience.” – Benjamin Chemla, founder and CEO of Shares.

“The UK launch has been a great achievement and we can’t wait to see the stock grow across Europe. This was an opportunity for us to invest in an innovative social commerce company that challenges the status quo of traditional retail investing.” – James Fitzgerald, partner at Valar Ventures.
