Safety App Namola is Now Available Nationwide

Meet Namola :

Namola is a crime response app that helps South African users #GetHelpFast. It improves emergency service dispatch times and the communication between officers, the control room and citizens. However, it does not replace 10111 (the 911 equivalent for police and fire in South Africa); it is there to complement the emergency service sector. Also, as of late last year it is available nationwide. Here’s how it works: a user requests assistance through the Namola app using the panic button, the Namola team immediately sends the request to local law enforcement and participating safety initiatives in the user’s community so they can come to one’s aid as quickly as possible. “Namola was initially launched as an ‘Uber for police’ in the City of Tshwane and later, Gauteng. It was introduced to give victims of crime access to a new innovative way of contacting the police and now has over 120,000 registered users” – crime activist and Namola chief ambassador, Yusuf Abramjee.

Last, South African personal lines insurer Dialdirect is a partner. “Namola is a smart complement to 10111. Your call will always be answered and the information will be passed on to the nearest police station. Namola doesn’t guarantee that the police will be on time, but it improves your chances to get help greatly” – Executive Head of Dialdirect Insurance, Warwick Scott-Rodger.
