Root is offering free roadside assistance

Root is offering people free roadside assistance via Myles, its new mobile app that’s available on the App Store and Google Play.

The app lets users earn free 24-hour emergency roadside assistance just for driving. Users download the app to immediately receive 540 points, and for every day they drive they earn 10 points. Each service request uses 500 points, meaning users can benefit from the app from day one, and Root covers up to $100 per help request. Services include jump-start, fuel delivery, towing, lockout, spare tire installation, and roadside winching.

“Other services like AAA roadside assistance require you to pay for a membership – and you may never even need to use it. The Myles app is free, and you can request emergency roadside assistance as soon as you download it. So if you find yourself stuck on the side of the road, you can get the help you need. No prior membership required.” – Myles app.

This isn’t Root’s only mobile aside from its main car insurance app. The startup also launched On My Way, a “family GPS tracker” that notifies users when their loved ones hit the road and when they arrive at their location.

The service is not available in all states.
