Progressive launches down payment grant program
Progressive is expanding its social impact efforts with The UpPayment, a grant program offering $13,500 in down payment assistance to first-generation homebuyers. The initiative targets individuals with no recent homeownership history and aims to close the wealth gap between renters and owners—one of the largest drivers of financial inequality in the US.
To qualify, applicants must have a mortgage pre-approval, be enrolled in a HUD-approved housing counseling program, and meet income thresholds. Grant recipients will each receive $13,500 toward a down payment, which will be paid directly to a closing agent by the Administrator. The program will award 100 grants in total, split evenly between two application periods ending October 15, 2025.
The funding is part of Progressive’s broader commitment to make homeownership more accessible and sustainable, building on over $7 million invested in 2024 toward housing initiatives.
“We believe homeownership should be an achievable goal for more Americans. Progress is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re committed to providing first-generation homebuyers with guidance and support they need to help navigate the homebuying journey with confidence. By providing access, education, and financial support, we aim to help individuals and families build lasting financial security. Through strategic collaborations and tailored resources, our mission is to advance progress in the home by strengthening families and communities for the future.” – Tricia Griffith, Chief Executive Officer at Progressive.
