Pie and Ford to split in 2025

Pie Insurance and Ford Credit will end their commercial auto partnership at the close of 2025. Pie will stop accepting new commercial auto submissions with create dates of December 1, 2025 or later, and no new or renewal policies will be issued with effective dates on or after January 1, 2026.

Pie says the move allows it to focus on scaling its workers’ compensation business — its core product and the area where it sees the strongest value for small businesses. Ford, for its part, is repositioning Ford Pro Insure toward fleet flexibility and closer alignment with Ford Pro customers, a shift that moves it away from Pie’s small-business orientation.

According to an email sent yesterday and reviewed by Coverager, “Pie’s focus has always been and will remain to serve small businesses, and Ford is shifting Ford Pro Insure toward fleet flexibility and focus on Ford Pro customers, which diverges from Pie’s focus on serving small businesses. This change enables Pie to continue scaling our workers’ compensation business, where we deliver exceptional value to small businesses.”

As background, Ford Credit announced Ford Pro Insure at the end of 2022 as a new commercial auto product powered by Pie Insurance. The program covers commercial vehicles purchased through Ford Pro and other channels. Policies are issued by The American Road Insurance Company, the carrier subsidiary of Ford Motor Company, and sold and administered by Pie.
