Naked launches pet insurance with AI onboarding
South African digital broker Naked Insurance has introduced pet insurance underwritten by Hollard , with accident-only coverage starting at R40 per month for cats and R55 for dogs.
The launch includes Naked’s first customer-facing use of a large language model, according to head of partnerships Pieter de Waal. Customers describe their pet’s medical history through a conversation instead of completing a traditional form.

Naked offers accident-only, accident-and-illness, and comprehensive coverage, with the latter including physiotherapy and routine care. Customers can select annual limits between R15,000 and R120,000 and choose their excess. Coverage allows any registered veterinarian in South Africa and has no treatment-specific sublimits, though annual and per-claim limits apply. Pets must enroll before age nine to qualify for illness coverage.
The company also uses AI and automation to assess claims and match veterinary invoices to reported incidents, with some cases referred for human review.

Pet insurance joins Naked’s existing car, home, contents and standalone-item products.
